Special Session

The Bladen County Board of Commissioners met in Special Session regarding Building Security in Room G7 of the Courthouse at 5:00 p.m. with the following members present:

Sheriff Bunn presented a Power Point Presentation regarding Building Security Recommendations for the Courthouse. Approximate amount of funding needed for Courthouse Security: $188,000.00

General Services Manager Robert Mazur provided information regarding security at the annex buildings. He reviewed each annex and provided a synopsis of its needs and approximate cost to secure. (Approximate Cost for AnnexBuildings $261,805) Mr. Mazur also recommended the following order for security implementation.

1. Courthouse
2. Social Services
3. Impound Lot
4. Health Department
5. Powell-Melvin Agricultural Services Center
6. Sheriff Department
7. Operations Building
8. Recreation Department (Gym)
9. Library
10. Animal Control

Discussion was held among the Commissioners, Sheriff Bunn, and Staff regarding cost, need and inconvenience to citizens if security measures are fully implemented.

Mr. Mazur advised that the need for Courthouse security is urgent because of the profile of people coming into the building. He also discussed the need for educating the citizens of Bladen County regarding changes that will be faced when entering the Courthouse.

Commissioner Larry Smith arrived.

Chairman Taylor expressed appreciation to the Sheriff and staff for the information presented to the Board regarding consideration of Bladen County Building Security.
